History

Where it all started

Uzhhorod railway station consists of two buildings: the old station, which was built back in 1903 during the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and the new station, which was completed nearby as part of a large-scale reconstruction in 2004. Both buildings are connected by a gallery on the level of the second floor. With tAfter that, the old building became a suburban station, and the newly built one the station accepts long-distance trains. Uzhhorod got a railway connection relatively late - in 1872, when the construction of the Chop - Uzhhorod section was completed, thanks to which the people of Uzhhorod were able to reach Budapest and Vienna directly. At that time, the railway was already operating not only in Chopa, but also in Mukachevo, Beregov and other settlements of the then Austro-Hungarian Empire. The train station at station appeared only thirty years later and lasted almost unchanged for more than a century, successfully having survived two world wars.
